No tengo conocimiento que tantas empresas en Mexico ya estan usando de manera extensa soluciones SaaS, quizas dentro de muy poco en la empresa donde laboro empezemos a utilizar una. Obviamente respaldada por una de las empresas mas importantes en este rubro. Creo que sera una experiencia muy interesante, sobre todo porque la integracion se hace sobre estandares abiertos, y que la tecnologia que tenemos en el backend es propietaria.

Espero poder tenerles un review mucho mas profundo al respecto de este seguimiento. Asi como las ventajas y desventajas del modelo.

Ayer Microsoft realizó una actualización al software de Zune (tanto desktop como dispositivo), e incluyó principalmente mejoras en relación a la comunidad, como compartir las tarjetas de los demas usuarios e incluso sincronizarlas entre los dispositivos. Por ejemplo si mi amigo Juan tiene su tarjeta Zune, con todas las rolas que el escucha, si sincronizo esa tarjeta con mi dispositivo voy a poder ver la musica que le guste y eventualmente si quiero puedo comprarla, pero además si tengo mi Zune Pass (musica rentada), se va a descargar la música a mi dispositivo. Hay también una nueva opción de playlists en automatico y algo que la comunidad había pedido mucho que es que no haya pausas entre una canción y otra (algo muy útil cuando escuchas un concierto).

Por la marte “mala”, pues el equipo de Zune esta tomando la decisión de cerrar el contenido a solamente USA y próximamente Canada, esto significa que cuando instalas la nueva versión ya no tienes acceso al “marketplace”, lo cual hace que casi me infarte, porque una de las características mas padres para mi del Zune, es el Zune Pass, para poder consumir “legalmente” toda la música que yo quiera.

Afortunadamente lo único que revisa el software es la configuración regional, y al cambiarla a USA, ya te deja accesar. Espero que no hagan lo mismo que con Xbox y hagan despues el bloqueo en base a la IP, sobre todo porque ahora ademas de la música ya existen disponibles series de televisión para poder comprarlas.

Dear Jerry:

After over three months, we have reached the conclusion of the process regarding a possible combination of Microsoft and Yahoo!.

I first want to convey my personal thanks to you, your management team, and Yahoo!’s Board of Directors for your consideration of our proposal. I appreciate the time and attention all of you have given to this matter, and I especially appreciate the time that you have invested personally. I feel that our discussions this week have been particularly useful, providing me for the first time with real clarity on what is and is not possible.

I am disappointed that Yahoo! has not moved towards accepting our offer. I first called you with our offer on January 31 because I believed that a combination of our two companies would have created real value for our respective shareholders and would have provided consumers, publishers, and advertisers with greater innovation and choice in the marketplace. Our
decision to offer a 62 percent premium at that time reflected the strength of these convictions.

In our conversations this week, we conveyed our willingness to raise our offer to $33.00 per share, reflecting again our belief in this collective opportunity. This increase would have added approximately another $5 billion of value to your shareholders, compared to the current value of our initial offer. It also would have reflected a premium of over 70 percent compared to the price at which your stock closed on January 31. Yet it has proven insufficient, as your final position insisted on
Microsoft paying yet another $5 billion or more, or at least another $4 per share above our $33.00 offer.

Also, after giving this week’s conversations further thought, it is clear to me that it is not sensible for Microsoft to take our offer directly to your shareholders. This approach would necessarily involve a protracted proxy contest and eventually an exchange offer. Our discussions with you have led us to conclude that, in the interim, you would take steps
that would make Yahoo! undesirable as an acquisition for Microsoft.

We regard with particular concern your apparent planning to respond to a “hostile” bid by pursuing a new arrangement that would involve or lead to the outsourcing to Google of key paid Internet search terms offered by Yahoo! today. In our view, such an arrangement with the dominant search provider would make an acquisition of Yahoo! undesirable to us for a number
of reasons:

— First, it would fundamentally undermine Yahoo!’s own strategy and
long-term viability by encouraging advertisers to use Google as opposed
to your Panama paid search system. This would also fragment your
search advertising and display advertising strategies and the ecosystem
surrounding them. This would undermine the reliance on your display
advertising business to fuel future growth.

— Given this, it would impair Yahoo’s ability to retain the talented
engineers working on advertising systems that are important to our
interest in a combination of our companies.

— In addition, it would raise a host of regulatory and legal problems
that no acquirer, including Microsoft, would want to inherit. Among
other things, this would consolidate market share with the
already-dominant paid search provider in a manner that would reduce
competition and choice in the marketplace.

— This would also effectively enable Google to set the prices for key
search terms on both their and your search platforms and, in the
process, raise prices charged to advertisers on Yahoo. In addition to
whatever resulting legal problems, this seems unwise from a business
perspective unless in fact one simply wishes to use this as a vehicle
to exit the paid search business in favor of Google.

— It could foreclose any chance of a combination with any other search
provider that is not already relying on Google’s search services.

Accordingly, your apparent plan to pursue such an arrangement in the event of a proxy contest or exchange offer leads me to the firm decision not to pursue such a path. Instead, I hereby formally withdraw Microsoft’s proposal to acquire Yahoo!.

We will move forward and will continue to innovate and grow our business at Microsoft with the talented team we have in place and potentially through strategic transactions with other business partners.

I still believe even today that our offer remains the only alternative put forward that provides your stockholders full and fair value for their shares. By failing to reach an agreement with us, you and your stockholders have left significant value on the table.

But clearly a deal is not to be.

Me dió gusto hace poco saber, que uno de mis proveedores le entró ya a la onda del Blogging, y de una manera institucionalizada y no como un intento de alguno de sus empleados por llevar una bitacora. mas bien es información relacionada a la actividad que llevan a cabo (son partners de Microsoft), y pues obviamente influyen en las operaciones de distintas empresas. Al externarles mi felicitación por ese logre me puse a pensar como los partners de los grandes conglomerados tienen en sus hombres el realmente hacer comunidades de sus clientes. Ellos son los que están mas cerca de la problematica de los clientes. La verdad es que a menos que seas GE, Walmart o Telmex, es dificil que Microsoft te ofrezca atención personalizada a tus necesidades. Sin embargo los partners pueden echar mano de la tecnología web 2.0 para formar comunidades donde uno como cliente realmente se sienta escuchado y entendido.

¿Conocen más empresas que ya estén usando la Web 2.0 en Mexico para el beneficio de sus clientes?

Casi como regularmente sucede, de pura casualidad me encontre con un sitio interesanton, se llama Scribd y permite visualizar casi cualquier tipo de documento (word,excel,porwer point, pdf, etc), en su formato nativo. Usando tecnologia Flash, y obviamente una serie de herramientas Web 2.0, para que la “comunidad” pueda comentar el trabajo. Suena interesante que te ofrezcan espacio ilimitado, solo habria que ver si ellos toman posesion de los derechos de los documentos. Alcance a leer una leyenda que decia que si no eras el propietario intelectual de la obra, te abstuvieras de publicarla.

Resulta que en una convencion de USA, Mexico y Canada en Nueva Orleans el departamento de seguridad nacional de estados unidos, extravio un BlackBerry dentro de la oficina donde estaban realizando la junta. Al momento de buscarlo pues resulta que una personita de la comitiva Mexicana accidentalmente se lo habia echado a la bolsa. Como no quieren que nos tachen de rateros…

Durante el pasado mes he estado leyendo muchisimos articulos cuestionando el modelo de SaaS, que de entrada yo nunca he comulgado al 100% con el. Por lo menos no al grado de que una empresa pueda mover toda su operación a esta metodología. La parte de respaldo y almacenamiento es la que sí me hace lógica, sobre todo porque el respaldo “fuera de sitio” hace muchísima lógica.

Esto también lo saco a colación ya que dentro de los artículos mencionan problemas con servicios como Amazon S3, Gmail, Twitter y algunos mas famosos como los de BlackBerry, hace unos minutos volví a entrar a twitter para seguir a un compañero que acaba de entrar y oh sorpresa!

Aún sin embargo, no siendo mas papistas que el papa, la realidad es que las aplicaciones hosteadas en el data center de las empresas también estan expuestas a este tipo de errores y quizas mucho más frecuentamente, pero creo que no es lo mismo el que la solución este en tus manos a esperarla de un proveedor, “especialmente” si el servicio es gratituito, y no existe un SLA (Service Level Agreement) de por medio.

Para cualquier gamer… sin comentarios. Sobre todo porque no habrá fatalities.

Ya hace unos días que flickr anuncio que iba a soportar el subir videos a su website, aunque unicamente para los usuario PRO (24.95 al año), aprovechando que me decidí hace tiempo a suscribirme al site, aqui les dejo el primer video que subí, ¿que les parece?. Aunque no es competencia directa para Youtube, esta interesante el poder tener también video para compartir.

Es un juego entre los Padres de San Diego y los Gigantes de SF.
